EXPLORER PROGRAM
COMMANDER NAVY REGION SOUTHWEST

Commander Navy Region Southwest's Police Explorer Program is being instituted to offer select Navy military and civilian dependents an opportunity toward exploring a Law Enforcement career. Explorer Post 7613 has been certified by the "Learning for Life Program". The CNRSW Post will educate teenagers in the field of law enforcement and give the Explorer Scout the opportunity for hands-on training and law enforcement exposure. The scouts will be required to display strong moral character, integrity, maturity and personal values. The instructors for this program are experienced Law Enforcement Deputies and Officers from various agencies within San Diego & Imperial Counties.

Requirements: Open to all Department of the Navy military or civilian employee dependents between the ages of 14-20 years old. Must successfully pass an oral interview and background investigation prior to selection.

Once selected for the program, candidates will be required to attend the Explorer academy annually. The academy will be held at UCSD, and consists of the following three phases:

Phase 1: Basic Law Enforcement Knowledge
Phase 2/3: Advanced courses, i.e. defensive driving, self defense control tactics, report writing, etc.

Once qualified, the Navy Police Explorer Scouts can be utilized during special events such as traffic control, crowd control, and parking lot security. There is a rank structure that begins at Explorer Patrol Officer with promotion opportunities up to Explorer Captain.
